Was Chris Pratt‘s role in The Super Mario Bros Movie or The Garfield Movie easier to voice? The answer may surprise you.

Speaking to ComicBook.com, Pratt was asked who was easier to voice. He revealed that Garfield is easier than Mario because Mario's voice is “very similar” to his voice.

“Hah, probably the latter because Garfield, I don't do all that much,” he said. “I'm mostly doing my own, something similar, very similar to my own voice with Garfield or with Mario.

“We tried lots of different things before landing on what was ultimately like this sort of subtle, acceptable commercial Italian accent that was reminiscent of the video games, but also its own thing and that could sustain a 90-minute story without being annoying. So I think that was probably a little bit more of a challenge,” he continued.

For The Garfield Movie, Pratt was just asked to use his own voice. “This one, Mark Dindal[,] the director [of] Garfield[,] said, ‘I just want your voice. I just want you to do your thing. I've been hearing your voice come out of this cat for the last two years in my mind and that's what I want,'” he concluded.

What is The Garfield Movie?

The Garfield Movie is an adaptation of Jim Davis' iconic comic strip. Mark Dindal (The Little Mermaid) directed the film based on a script written by Paul A. Kaplan, Mark Torgove, and David Reynolds.

It follows the titular cat (voiced by Pratt) who reunites with his long-lost father. He is then roped into an adventure with him.

In addition to Pratt, the voice cast features Samuel L. Jackson, Hannah Waddingham, Ving Rhames, Nicholas Hoult, and Cecily Strong.

The Garfield Movie comes amid Pratt's voiceover-heavy era of his career. Last year, he voiced the title role in The Super Mario Bros Movie. It was one of the highest-grossing films of the year, making over $1.3 billion worldwide.
