Miami Heat forward Justise Winslow posted a tweet Friday of a photo he took with Philadelphia 76ers forward Jerami Grant, raising their fists with the caption “We Matter”.
The photo appeared to be in direct response to the Sixers recent home opener controversy sparked between the organization and the artist chosen to sing the anthem. night.
Singer Amber Denise Streeter also known as Sevyn Streeter was pulled from singing the anthem, because she wore a jersey with the phrase ‘We Matter' emblazoned on the front.
The Sixers then chose one of the team's dancers as her replacement to sing the anthem as a backup.
Streeter posted a tweet explaining the situation, and it sparked a controversy, which caused the Sixers to discuss the matter with its players before issuing a apology on Friday.
The photo taken by Winslow appears to have been taken in Miami where an earlier preseason game was played between the two teams, but was only posted after the recent issue in Philadelphia.
As the season progresses, we will likely see players show their own forms of peaceful protests to spread their message to the masses.
