The Nebraska football team is desperate to find any sort of success as it has been since 2016 that they last went to a bowl game. The Cornhuskers have brought in new head coaches, and nothing changed. Matt Rhule is now the head coach at Nebraska and his squad failed to get a bowl game in year one, and but something might help them take the next step in 2024. That something is quarterback Dylan Raiola.
Dylan Raiola is an absolute game-changer for Matt Rhule and the Nebraska football team. Raiola was one of the top overall prospects in the 2024 recruiting class, and he was the #2 overall QB prospect. He was originally committed to play at Georgia, but he ended up flipping his commitment to the Cornhuskers. The fan base has big expectations for him.
Nebraska football fans will get to see Raiola in action in a Cornhuskers uniform for the first time at their spring game this Saturday. There should a big turn out as everyone is excited to see the star freshman play. So far, it sounds like he has doing well during scrimmages.
“We challenged him — not bad body language — to get his energy going, because people are going to feed off him,” Nebraska offensive coordinator Marcus Satterfield said, according to an article from the Omaha-World Herald. “And he played like he was at recess. He played like he was in third grade out on the playground – flying around, moving around, dancing around, giving people high fives. And I think that bled into our offensive guys. Gave them a lot of confidence to go out and do some really good things last Saturday.”
That is music to Nebraska fans' ears. It has been so long since this team met expectations, and Raiola has given this fan base and program a sense of hope.
Dylan Raiola still has to compete for the starting job
We all know that Nebraska football fans want Dylan Raiola to be the starting quarterback, but it isn't going to be handed to him. He has to earn that spot, and there are other guys that are just as hungry as he is to get it.
One of those players in Heinrich Haarberg, who ended up becoming the starter for the Cornhuskers last season after a few games. Satterfield has been impressed with him as well.
“(Haarberg) has a super arm, so the thing with him is, taking some of the velocity of those throws,” Satterfield said. “His accuracy has improved, and he had a really nice day on Saturday.”
There is a lot to look forward to in regards to the Nebraska spring game this weekend. Fans are obviously most excited to see Dylan Raiola, but there are a lot of other positions to pay attention to as well. If the Cornhuskers are going to be successful, they are going to have to improve in more places than just QB.
Nebraska football has been struggling for awhile now, and Cornhuskers are hopeful that this season could be the one where the page turns.
