The Ohio State football program continues to build after another successful season. The Buckeyes have a highly touted Class of 2024 recruit group joining the team, and their 2025 class might grow larger after 5-star safety Trey McNutt's comments.

McNutt visited Ohio State over the weekend and was impressed with the team's offerings.

“They're a potential fit. Their standard that they hold themselves at is very high,” McNutt told On3.

It seems the talented safety recruit is in tune with Ohio State's culture. It will be interesting to see what final decision he makes ahead of the start of his senior year.

Trey McNutt holds offers from several top Division 1 schools, many of them in the Big 10. His list includes Ohio State, Oregon, Notre Dame, Michigan, and USC. The Shaker Heights High School junior just finished an impressive 2023 season.

McNutt totaled 61 tackles, three tackles for a loss, 12 pass breakups, and two forced fumbles. The 5-star safety's calling card is defense, but he contributes a respectable offensive load. He finished the year with 611 yards and 12 touchdowns. His versatility should serve him well at the collegiate level.

Trey McNutt would be a stellar addition to Ohio State's Class of 2025 recruiting class. His football ability would greatly boost the program, but his off-the-field qualities are equally impressive. McNutt's mother LaToya glowed when speaking about his accomplishments and impact on others.

“Trey is just doing great things on and off the field,” his mother told On3. “And so, just to see him reap some of the rewards and the recognition – he doesn't look for it, but to see it kind of come his way, those [are] blessings. It's just a blessing and I couldn't be prouder of him. Excited for him and the opportunities that he has, and as a family. He's an inspiration and he wants to inspire kids.”

Will McNutt find himself in Columbus in 2025 as Ohio State reloads for the future?

Ohio State football looks to continue short and long-term success

One of Ohio State's biggest offseason coaching staff splashes came when the team brought former Oregon football assistant Carlos Locklyn. Locklyn joined the program as a running backs coach after helping Oregon compete as one of the nation's top offenses.

Trey McNutt would be in good hands if he commits to the Buckeyes.  Moreover, Ohio State looks to continue its wave of success into the 2024-25 season and beyond.

Ohio State boasted one of the top offenses in the country in 2023-24. The squad primarily benefitted from the services of Kyle McCord and Marvin Harrison Jr.

McCord threw for 3,170 yards and 24 TDs, maintaining a QBR of 83.8. Meanwhile, Harrison hauled in a whopping 1,211 receiving yards and 14 TDs on 67 receptions. Ohio State is losing both of its star contributors. McCord transferred to Syracuse, and Harrison is starting his NFL career with the Arizona Cardinals.

Nevertheless, the team has plenty of stout contributors returning, headlined by senior running back
TreVeyon Henderson. He comes off a year with 926 rushing yards and 11 TDs. With his leadership, there is doubt the Buckeyes can remain a force.

With new-look staff and player personnel, Ohio State wants to return to the top of the Big 10 in 2024-25. It will be interesting to see how the rest of the spring and summer go amid their endeavors.
