Zack Snyder has a few ideas on how he would ended Henry Cavill's run as Superman, according to his GQ interview on the magazine's YouTube channel.

According to Snyder, he would have given Cavill his final act as Superman in the DC Extended Universe. The director said he would bring Clark Kent's story full circle. At the end of 2021's Zack Snyder's Justice League, Superman would be destroyed and then return to a fight for survival against Darkseid.

“He was going to have to succumb to the Anti-life, be destroyed, turn the clock back, and then get his chance for this battle against Darkseid. If you will… that would have finished his trilogy of becoming this guardian, and sort of, return him to his humanity,” the filmmaker said.

Will there be a return of Superman in Snyder's hands?

Zack Snyder becomes the first director to get a profile icon on the platform.

When Cavill left the DCEU in 2022, there were so many fan theories and conversations online. It's still going on to this day. Remember that at the same time, the actor announced that he was leaving The Witcher to reprise his role as Superman. It was a shock to fans when it was announced that DC was going to reboot the entire Justice League and that Cavill would no longer be Superman. His last appearance as the Man of Steel was in 2022's Black Adam post-credit cameo.

Snyder worked with Cavill during most of his Superman tenure. The director left in the middle of the production of Justice League due to his daughter's sudden death. Joss Whedon took over and was responsible for filming additional scenes that would make it to the final cut. Whedon's version was panned by critics and fans were divided. On Rotten Tomatoes, the 2017 film's Tomatometer was at 40% and an audience score of 67%.

But would you want one?

However, Snyder didn't fare well against critics either with how he handled Cavill's Superman. The 2013 Man of Steel scored a 56% Tomatometer, but it did have a much better 75% audience rating. The director's vision of a non-perfect and dark hero was clear in how he made the movie. His next movie, the 2016 Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice didn't score any better with both the critics and fans. It scored a 29% Tomatometer and a 63% audience rating.

Honestly speaking, if there were ever a possibility for Cavill to return as Superman, I wouldn't want Snyder anywhere near it. Don't get me wrong, he did well with 2004's Dawn of the Dead, 2006's 300 and 2009's Watchmen. But I agree with most of the critics who believed that he mishandled Superman with the Snyderverse.

Every single movie that Cavill appeared as Superman, it was as if he was written and directed to be an alternate universe version of the superhero. That would have been fine if that were the movie we were there to see. But it wasn't.

So with James Gunn running DC Studios, I'm hoping that we'll see the truth, justice and American way in a Brit — even if it's not Henry Cavill.
