Without further ado, let's dive right in.

TopSpin 2K25 MyCAREER Beginner's Guide

TopSpin 2K25's Career Mode follows your MyPLAYER's journey from a young new talent to a world-renowned champion. Each year, you participate in training, special events, and tournaments to improve your skill, complete goals, and climb up the global and race rank. We'll first start off with the monthly cycle before moving onto resting and goals. Lastly, we'll cover other important mechanics like attributes, homes, injuries, and more.

However, before we begin we do recommend playing through TopSpin Academy first. This mode teaches you the ins and outs of TopSpin 2K25, from serving to volleys, to different shot types, aiming, and much more. It never hurts to learn a few lessons from legendary Tennis player John McEnroe.

Understand The TopSpin 2K25 Career Mode Cycle

Firstly, when starting MyCAREER, the game explains to you how the monthly cycle works. Overall, you participate in three major events during each month:

  • Training
  • Special Event
  • Tournament

Firstly, training events are the shortest and come in four difficulties (Bronze, Silver, Gold, Platinum). These events offer training for three mechanics: Groundstrokes, Volleys, Serves. Completing a training event rewards the player with VC & XP based on the difficulty. Furthermore, if you fail, you can retry up to three times.

Secondly, Special Events are short matches that also come in the same four difficulties. These events offer both singles and doubles matches with different match formats. For example, one Special event might require you to win a Serve & Score 6 format, in which the first to earn six points on serve counts wins. However, you can find some special events with different formats, opponents, match types, and more.

Completing a special event can earn you all sorts rewards from XP & VC, to courts, cosmetics, and more. However, just know that higher difficulty training and special events may require you to unlock them by completing different in-game objectives.

Lastly, we come to the tournaments, the final event of the month. When first starting in MyCAREER, you'll be playing in TS 250 Tournaments to raise your rank, earn XP, and raise your status. Tournaments work as you would think. Win a game, and advance to the next round. Keep winning until the very end to become the champion.

As you build your status and rank, you'll earn chances to join TS 500 and even ATP Masters 1000 tourneys. Additionally, tournaments reward the player with a considerable amount of XP & VC.

There's not much to say about tournaments themselves, because you just need to focus on winning now. However, there's plenty of other features in MyCAREER you should learn about to make a tournament run a lot smoother.

Lastly, you are allowed to skip training and special events and go directly to the tournament. However, you will be unable to go back and complete the previous events. This, in turn, will leave you missing out on XP rewards, Status goals, and potentially more.

Complete Goals To Raise Status

As we mentioned a couple of times already, Status is important in TopSpin 2K25. You not only need to focus on your rank, but status as a player. Thankfully, the game tells you everything you need to do in order to achieve the next status and move your way to bigger and better tourneys.

You can find these goal on the Calendar page of MyCAREER, on the bottom right under your player's details. It should tell you the following:

  • Your goals to the next status
  • What your next status is
  • A list of goals for you to complete

Overall, TopSpin 2K25 has eight different statuses for the player to progress through:

  1. Unknown
  2. Rookie
  3. New Talent
  4. Young Gun
  5. Rising Star
  6. Star
  7. Superstar
  8. Legend

Know that you know what you're trying to achieve, you're technically free to begin. However, you also need to know when your MyPLAYER needs a break.

Rest Often & Travel Wisely To Avoid Injury

TopSpin 2K25's MyCAREER Mode comes with an Energy system that factors heavily into the gameplay. It works like this. Your player starts off 100% energy, which can happen from different things like traveling across the world or playing matches. Thankfully, training and special events do NOT drain energy, excluding travel.

As your energy decreases the risk of injury increases. There are two types of injuries in TopSpin 2K25:

  • Minor Injuries – 35% energy or lower
    • Negatively impacts attributes & performance.
    • CAN still play
    • To recover: Resting to 100% energy
  • Major Injuries – 15% energy or lower
    • Prevents playing for 2-4 months

Therefore, we recommend avoiding injuries at all cost by monitoring your energy. There are two ways to recover energy in TopSpin 2K25's career mode. Resting is the best method, as it offers the most energy recharge. However, completing a tournament also slightly recharges your energy.

Just know that resting can possibly result in your player rank dropping down. So you need to find a balance that enables you to compete in tourneys, climb up the ranks, earn rewards, and possess enough energy to do so.

Thankfully, TopSpin 2K25's career mode eventually offers you the chance to buy homes across different nations. Owning a reduces energy costs when traveling. Additionally, you can set up a home to be your permanent residence, which will provide you additional recovery bonuses. You can change your permanent residency for free every six months, or via VC.

However, homes must be unlocked and then purchased by completing different challenges in the game. Overall, you'll want to own homes because less resting means more playing. And more playing allows you to avoid your precious rank from falling.

Spending Attribute Points & Using XP & VC Boosts

After all your hard work, you'll earn Attribute points after leveling up your player. These points can improve one of eight different attributes:

  • Forehand
  • Backhand
  • Serve
  • Volley
  • Power
  • Speed
  • Stamina
  • Reflexes

Overall, we feel you should spend your points on whatever attributes you feel are most important. That said, we recommend distributing your points equally so you slowly grow in all categories. However, feel free to also just focus on a few attributes, if you know what you want to specialize in.

However, one thing we do recommend is using Boosts for both XP and VC before heading out onto the courts. To use a Boost, visit your Court Comms menu, and switch from MyCAREER over to Boosts. You can activate boosts before matches to earn extra XP and VC.

Players earn VC and XP boosts via Locker Codes. Furthermore, TopSpin 2K25's Pro Shop lets you buy XP Boosts, which you can then use in MyCAREER. We recommend using your currency to buy these instead of on cosmetics to help develop your MyPLAYER faster.

However, the game includes other ways to improve your MyPLAYER.

Coaches, Skill, and Fittings Bonuses

Three more ways to improve your MyPLAYER's skill is through Coaches, Skills, and Fitting Bonuses.

Firstly, you can hire coaches in TopSpin 2K25 to develop your player. Furthermore, Coaches offer attribute bonuses, which can be upgraded when you complete their challenges and rank them up. Additionally, completing a coach challenge nets you more rewards like VC, XP, and major attribute boosts to your character.

Coaches can be hired, fired, and re-hired (for no cost), but changing a coach means you'll lose the attribute bonuses they give you. So take some time to look at what attributes each coach upgrades, and focus on playing with them first. We do recommend upgrading all coaches, since they do offer some unique rewards like VC.

However, Coaches aren't the only way to boost your player stats. Active Skills are situational gameplay bonuses that also improve your player. They can be unlocked through Gold and Platinum Coaches, or through Tier 3 Fittings. You may not have access to these skills right away, but keep them in mind for the future.

Fittings are other bonuses for your racket that also improve your character. We recommend equipping them, especially once you find yourself competing in more competitive tournaments. You can only upgrade your player's attributes so much, so fittings, coaches, and skills all play a big role in giving you the advantage.
