After years of being considered one of the biggest “what if” players in baseball, Byron Buxton has made the first MLB All-Star Game of his career. Injuries have always dominated the narrative around the Minnesota Twins center fielder. This season, he has been healthy and is now an All-Star.

After the Twins defeated the Texas Rangers 6-5 (partly thanks to a home run from Buxton), the first-time All-Star said that he is going to enjoy the moment with his family. He said that this is a day he won't forget and that securing the win makes it sweeter.

In the Twins locker room following the game, Buxton stressed that his teammates played a huge part in him receiving the honor and that he is excited to get to work over the second half of the season.

Buxton's hitting has been tremendous over the past few years and he has now finally stayed healthy enough to be named to the MLB All-Star Game. In 67 games, he has a slash line of .215/.295/.550, 54 hits, 23 home runs and 11 doubles. His slugging percentage ranks 10th in the majors and his defensive abilities have been huge to the Twins as well.

Joining Byron Buxton in the All-Star Game festivities in Los Angeles is Luis Arraez. The Twins' on-base machine also got the nod for the first time in his career. Minnesota is avenging its disappointing 2021 season and currently leading the AL Central.
