U2‘s Adam Clayton is putting up one of his basses from the Sphere up for auction. Also at this auction is a guitar played by the Beatles' John Lennon and George Harrison.

The Guardian is reporting on the new auction. Clayton's bass from the Sphere, as well as one of his stage outfits, is up for auction. There are plenty of other music items up for auction, including items from Tina Turner, Kurt Cobain, Michael Jackson, and Amy Winehouse.

As noted, the Beatles' John Lennon and George Harrison have an iconic guitar up for auction. The guitar used by Lennon was used to record “You've Got to Hide Your Love Away” and other songs from Help. Harrison also used the guitar for the likes of “Norwegian Wood” and “Girl” from Rubber Soul.

Darren Julien, who co-founded and is the executive director of Julien's Auctions, said, “Finding this remarkable instrument is like finding a lost Rembrandt or Picasso, and it still looks and plays like a dream,” about the guitar.

Items from the auction will be on display in London at the Hard Rock Cafe in Piccadilly Circus from April 23-30.

Adam Clayton and U2

Adam Clayton has been the bassist of U2 since its conception in 1976. The band has recorded 15 studio albums and embarked on several blockbuster tours. His iconic bass parts include ones from “Gloria,” “New Year's Day,” “With or Without You,” and “Mysterious Ways.”

Outside of his U2 ventures, Clayton has branched out and worked on other projects. He teamed with Larry Mullen Jr. to re-record the Mission: Impossible theme for the 1996 Tom Cruise-led film. As a result, Clayton and Mullen received a Grammy nomination for Best Pop Instrumental Performance, ultimately losing to Béla Fleck and the Flecktones' “The Sinister Minister.”

As a band, U2 has won 22 Grammys (they have been nominated for 46 awards). Their last nomination came at the fifty-seventh ceremony in 2015 for Best Rock Album.

While they have been around for decades, U2 isn't slowing down. In the last decade, they have released three studio albums — Songs of Innocence, Songs of Experience, and Songs of Surrender — and embarked on four concert tours and a concert residency.

Those tours included the “Joshua Tree” anniversary tour. The initial tour took place in 2017, as the band celebrated the album's thirtieth anniversary. Two years later, U2 took the tour to Oceania and Asia in 2019 with 15 shows. That was the last time the band has played concerts before the Sphere residency commenced.

U2 is also fresh off of their first-ever Las Vegas concert residency. They were the inaugural act to play at the Sphere and played 40 dates from September 29, 2023, through March 2, 2024.

Bono, The Edge, and Clayton were joined by Bram van den Berg for the residency. Larry Mullen Jr., the band's drummer, sat out of the residency due to recovery from health issues.

The residency was framed around U2's Achtung Baby. They played the album in its entirety for the first time. This included dusting off deep cuts such as “So Cruel” and “Love Is Blindness.”
