There’s been a lot of hype surrounding second-year quarterback Mitchell Trubisky and the Matt Nagy-led Chicago Bears offense this offseason. However, they didn’t quite deliver the goods in their 30-27 defeat to the Cincinnati Bengals.

After the game, Trubisky expressed his frustration about the offense’s performance, which fell far below their standards.

“Our standards are higher that we expect to be better,” Trubisky said, via NBC Sports Chicago. “No excuse for first preseason game. We have a bunch of experienced guys from last year, so there shouldn't be any jitters. Maybe guys were excited, but it's very simple — come out here, do your job, do exactly what we were doing in practice. We practiced our butts off this week. We just came out here and were sloppy.”

Trubisky went just 2-of-4 for four years in the two disjointed drives he led during the game. They made too many miscues in the form of penalties and lack of communication during those disappointing series.

But while Trubisky was fairly hard on the Bears offense, it’s not particularly surprising to see those types of errors from a relatively young team running a new offense. It might still take a bit more time before they iron out all the kinks.

Luckily, Trubisky and the Bears still have time to get back to the drawing board and correct their mistakes in practice. And in the short term, they will get a chance to redeem themselves in their next game on Saturday, Aug. 18 when they take on the Denver Broncos.
