Everyone appears to ready to write off Arizona Cardinals running back David Johnson for the remainder of the season. This includes head coach Bruce Arians, who recently said as much.

Cardinals coach Bruce Arians said Tuesday that he “doubts” David Johnson returns this season, via Kent Somers of the Arizona Republic.

As for the running back himself? He's not so quick to give too much thought about that, although, he gets why his coach believes it will work out this way.

“No, it’s not stunning [that Arians doubts his return],” Johnson said, via the Arizona Republic. “That’s the way he’s thinking. He’s been in the league and been coaching for a while. Like him, he doesn’t know. We don’t know what’s going to happen. I’m still in this cast for a couple weeks, so who knows what’s going to happen?”

Johnson needed surgery on his wrist after injuring it in the season opener. With the original timeline for his recovery at two to three months, the Cardinals placed him on injured reserve.

The running back actually still has a cast on his wrist. In turn, if he's being honest about it, David Johnson can’t entertain serious thoughts about returning until that changes.

At the same time, he is still holding onto a brighter view of his prospects than the coach. He said he is “staying optimistic” because “no one knows,” including Arians.

That is certainly one way to look at it. With teammate Carson Palmer also banged up, I am sure Arians would be thrilled for Johnson to prove him wrong. The Cardinals, despite decent depth at the position, can sure use him.
