The Miami Dolphins have reportedly parted ways with team captain Bobby McCain, then seized cornerback Jason McCourty from the New England Patriots, per Connor Grott of UPI.

Miami let go of McCain after spending six seasons with the franchise. The Dolphins selected the Memphis standout as their 5th round pick in the 2015 NFL draft. In six years in South Beach, McCain played a total of 87 games. He notched seven interceptions as a member of the Dolphins and recorded 254 tackles throughout his tenure. In the 2020 campaign, McCain played all 16 games and started in all but one. Last year, he finished with 46 tackles and one interception.

To replace the veteran, Miami signed undrafted tight end Jibri Blount, son of Pro Football Hall of Famer and Pittsburgh Steelers legend Marc Blount. The 24-year old Blount never played a slick of college football, but instead thrived at North Carolina Central as a basketball star. In a surprising twist of fate, he will get a shot at following his father's foot steps in the NFL.

Meanwhile, Jason McCourty will get a chance to reunite with coach Brian Flores. Prior to landing the head coaching gig in Miami in 2019, the 40-year old had spent 11 years as an assistant with the Patriots.

The 33-year old McCourty spent the past three seasons playing under coach Bill Belichick. He won a Super Bowl as a member of the Pats in 2018. Last season, where he started 11 games, he became team captain alongside his brother Devin. A 12-year veteran, McCourty has recorded 18 career interceptions, 106 passes defended, and 722 tackles in his career.
