The revenge narrative between New York Jets wide receiver Demaryius Thomas and the New England Patriots is not alive and well. Thomas has been named as an inactive in a Week 3 matchup against his former team.

The veteran receiver has been sidelined with hamstring and knee injuries in recent weeks. Thomas was active in last week's game against the Cleveland Browns but he exited the game early due to an injury.

New York acquired Thomas from the Patriots via trade after New England signed Antonio Brown. At the time, the Patriots saw Thomas as expendable because of the depth at their wide receiver position.

Prior to the Jets bringing him in, the Patriots signed Thomas earlier in the offseason in free agency. Before making his return to the field for Bill Belichick's team in the preseason, Thomas had to recover from a torn Achilles injury that he sustained with the Houston Texans in 2018.

The expectation was for the former Denver Broncos receiver to be eased into New England's offense to begin the season. Instead, Adam Gase decided to nudge GM Joe Douglas to make a move for Thomas.

Without Thomas on Sunday, the Jets are very thin at the wide receiver position. Robby Anderson and Jamison Crowder are the only reliable options remaining. On top of that, New York will square off against their division foe with Luke Falk under center.

As much as Thomas wanted to play in Week 3, the 31-year-old wideout will be in street clothes as his team attempts to pull off the impossible on Sunday.
