Jaire Alexander has been a key piece of the Green Bay Packers' secondary in his rookie season and has even received some notice from around the league. One big name that has noticed Alexander's impressive early play is New England Patriots' coach Bill Belichick.

Leading up to Sunday night's matchup between the Packers and Patriots, Belichick talked about Alexander and had a lot of good things to say about him. In a quote shared by Rob Demovsky of ESPN, Belichick heaped praise on Alexander for the way he has played thus far.

“He's going to have a great career. Thought it was an excellent pick; it was a little bit ahead of where we were pick. One of the top players on the board. Great kid. Great energy. I think he'll be one of the top corners in the league for quite a while now.”

As Demovsky pointed out, it sounds like Belichick was high on Alexander in the draft and would have loved the chance to take him for the Patriots.

Throughout the first five games of his career, Alexander has racked up 26 tackles to go along with 0.5 sacks, an interception, and six defended passes.

Last week against the Los Angeles Rams, Alexander stepped up with a huge performance. Green Bay was unable to come away with a win, but they did see major development from Alexander. He had seven tackles in the game and defended five passes.

Looking ahead to the Packers' game against New England, Alexander will be asked to play a key role. Tom Brady is one of the best quarterbacks of all-time and the Packers will have to figure out a way to slow down the Patriots' offense.

All of that being said, Alexander has the potential to be one of the top cornerbacks in the NFL in a few years. Green Bay should be very happy that they were able to snag him with the No. 18 overall pick in the draft and fans will enjoy watching him develop over the next couple of seasons.
