It's a new era for both the New England Patriots and Cam Newton.

With Tom Brady leaving the Patriots via free agency and ending a two-decade long marriage, Newton has stepped in to Brady's shoes and will be attempting to lead a new dawn in Foxborough.

Cam Newton arrived at Gillette Stadium for training camp on Thursday:

Cam Newton signed with the Patriots last month after being cut by the Carolina Panthers earlier this offseason. The Panthers' decision to part ways with Newton put a period on the end of a nine-year run.

The 31-year-old quarterback, who played his collegiate football at Auburn, was originally selected by Carolina with the No. 1 overall pick of the 2011 NFL Draft. It didn't take long for Cam Newton to establish himself as one of the league's brightest young stars, as he made the Pro Bowl during his rookie campaign.

Cam Newton's best season, however, was during the 2015-16 campaign, when he won the MVP award and led the Panthers to 15 wins and a Super Bowl appearance.

But since then, Newton's career has taken a turn for the worse.

Due to injuries and underwhelming performance across the board, the College Park, Ga., native has seen a clear decline in his numbers over the last several years.

Since the end of 2016, Cam Newton has undergone a pair of shoulder surgeries, and this past season, the signal-caller was limited to just two games due to a foot injury. He underwent a procedure to repair the issue back in December.

Cam Newton will be competing with Jarrett Stidham for the starting job in New England, but the general consensus is that Newton will be the starter come Week 1.
