Former Washington Redskins quarterback and Super Bowl MVP Mark Rypien was arrested on a fourth-degree domestic assault charge involving his wife on Sunday in Spokane, Washington.

It was determined by medical personnel that Danielle Rypien did not need medical treatment, and Mark Rypien was held in custody for the night before facing a judge on Monday morning.

This is not Mark Rypien's first accusation of domestic assault when in November 2017 charges were dropped on another incident of domestic violence against his wife.

Mark Rypien has blamed his actions in the past on medication he has taken in response to the physical toll his body took during his years in the NFL.

“I suffer from a complex stew of mental health conditions,” Rypien said in 2018. “Dark places, depression, anxiety, addictions, poor choices, poor decisions, brought about by dozens of concussions and thousands of subconcussive injuries from playing this sport.”

Rypien also admitted to attempting to commit suicide before he was saved by his wife.
