Drew Brees already made it known that he plans to return to the New Orleans Saints for his 20th season. But he believes he could play for a few more years. Following his decision to return, Brees claimed that he could play until he's 45 years old.

“I think, for me, it's not a matter of whether I can still play the game — definitely feel like I can still play the game,” Brees told WBZ-TV. “I could play it for quite a bit longer if I really wanted to.”

Brees, who turned 41 years old in January, continued to play at a high level for the Saints in 2019. Despite missing five games due to a thumb injury, Brees finished with 2,979 yards, 27 touchdowns, and four interceptions.

Following the end of the season, Brees considered his options before making the choice to return. In the end, the all-time leader in touchdown passes has chosen to return to the Saints next season. However, Brees does understand that making the decision to return for another season is dependent on his passion to play.

“You begin to weigh the sacrifices that you and your family make for you to be able to play this game at the highest level,” Brees said. “Give it the type of time and attention it deserves in order to be the very best. You owe that obligation to yourself and to your team.”

While Brees could retire before he turns 45 years old, he admitted that he could physically play until then. There's no doubt that fans in New Orleans would welcome the idea of Brees starting at quarterback in the 2024 season.
