As the New Orleans Saints try to figure out who they want to add in the draft one guy they are taking a close look at is Jaylon Ferguson, the NCAA leader in career sacks. According to Sean Fazende of Fox8, the Saints have set up a meeting with Ferguson.

In four years at Lousiana Tech, Ferguson finished with 45 sacks, breaking Terrell Suggs record. He also finished his career with 67.5 tackles for a loss and had 64 total quarterback pressures.

NFL Media’s Lance Zierlein compared Ferguson to current Saints player Marcus Davenport who was a first-round pick by the team in 2018.

“Extremely productive edge defender with an NFL caliber frame,” Zierlein said via 24/7 Sports. “He has experience as an edge linebacker, but his length and build increase the likelihood he'll be targeted as an even-front defensive end with potential to become a good NFL starter.”

One thing that could hurt Ferguson's draft stock was his showing at his pro day.

His pro day results were mixed after running the 40 yard dash in 4.82 seconds and the 20 yard shuttle in 5.12 seconds. Ferguson had a 32 inch vertical jump and a 117 inch broad, but when it came to the agility drills posted an 8.08 second mark in the three cone drill in front of scouts.

The Saints first draft pick isn't until pick 62 which is late in the second round so that poor pro day could actually help them if that is who they hope to take.

Most believe that Ferguson will be taken before though, and if the Saints really want him, they might have to trade up to get him.
