Since suffering a torn ACL last August, it has been a long road to recovery for New Orleans Saints wide receiver Cameron Meredith in his attempt to get back on the field this offseason.

In the weeks that followed his signing with the Saints, the organization has been quite optimistic about his health and availability ahead of the 2018 campaign. According to Herbie Teope of NFL.com, head coach Sean Payton voiced on Thursday morning that Meredith is “way ahead of schedule” in his recovery from the injury.

These comments from Payton would seem to suggest that Meredith will be on the field at some point this upcoming season. Meredith should have a situation in front of him where he could quickly latch onto a prominent role in the offense as another viable receiving option. Prior to the injury, Meredith was had put together a career-best campaign in 2016 where he recorded 66 catches for 888 receiving yards and four touchdowns.

There is still plenty of time for him to work his way back onto the field while gathering a stronger understanding of the offensive game plan. What will also be important in that regard is him building a strong rapport with star quarterback Drew Brees to be an effective receiving option in the passing game next season. This is what the time in the offseason could be huge for the 25-year-old to get comfortable in his new surroundings.

Meredith has shown to have some game-changing ability when healthy that could provide another dynamic to the passing attack alongside Pro Bowl wideout Michael Thomas. There could be plenty of chances for him to become a long-term piece of the puzzle if he's able to fit in well in his first campaign in New Orleans while helping the team build off last season's success pushing them toward competing for a Super Bowl.
