New Orleans Saints quarterback Taysom Hill surprised the NFL on Sunday with a performance that led to a win over their NFC South rival Atlanta Falcons.

Ross Jackson, the host of the daily Locked On Saints podcast, talked about the most surprising element of Hill’s game on Sunday.

Jackson: Did he earn his start for next week? Let’s go ahead and answer the last one now. Yes. He absolutely did. I think he did enough to earn the starts from now till when Drew Brees comes back as long as he does not take a complete nosedive. If he is able to manage the game in a total Teddy Bridgewater type fashion like we saw last season, the Saints then by the way six straight wins without their first ballot hall of fame quarterback. Five were by Teddy Bridgewater and one was by Taysom Hill. They have been really outstanding in finding ways to game plan and build around these quarterbacks coming in for relief of Drew Brees.

Let’s talk about some of the notes I took about Taysom throughout the game and we can look a little bit more about how it was utilized and we can discuss how it is sustainable moving forward for New Orleans. One of the things that surprised me the most was when watching Taysom was his eagerness to throw the football and the lack of eagerness to run the football. I thought he worked really well in the pocket and he probably could have ran the ball more or made decisions sooner but I understand that they (Saints) wanted to get an idea of what he was as a passer.
