There are a lot of unknowns about Dak Prescott's future with the Dallas Cowboys. Prescott was recently the subject of a lawsuit over alleged extortion after a woman accused him of alleged sexual assault. The Dallas Police have decided not to file charges against Prescott on that sexual assault allegation.

“I want to thank the Dallas Police Department and Dallas County District Attorneys’ office for their thorough investigation of the allegations against Dak Prescott,” Prescott’s attorney, Levi McCathern, wrote in an email to Lone Star Live. “We are confident that at the end of law enforcement’s investigation into the extortion case that they will find the accuser and her attorneys just as guilty as Dak is innocent.”

Prescott's camp questions why the accusations came so long after the alleged events.

Yoel and Bethel Zehaie, the legal representation for the woman, said in a written statement that they still plan to continue their counter claims in Collin County.

“Unfortunately, it takes a while for victims to come out and that can make it very difficult to prosecute these cases,” Zehaie said. “We thank DPD for their efforts and this is in no way an exoneration of Mr. Prescott.”

While the Dallas Police did not decide to file charges, Zehaie believes that information gained during the initial investigation could be helpful moving forward.

“In fact, we believe that the investigation showed there were inconsistencies with Mr. Prescott’s story and are moving forward with the counterclaims we have filed. This is not the beginning of the end but the end of the beginning in what will be a long legal battle for months to come.”

Will Dak Prescott return to the Cowboys in 2024?

The Cowboys have not yet committed to Dak Prescott as their long-term answer at quarterback.

Dak is in the final year of his current contract and allegedly communication has been ongoing between both camps. However, there has been no reporting around a new deal being imminent.

Cowboys head coach Mike McCarthy is also in the final year of his contract with the team. The team seems to be reluctant to hand out long-term contracts at the moment. Superstar wide receiver CeeDee Lamb will play 2024 on his fifth-year option and edge rusher Micah Parsons will play on an option in 2025. Neither is locked up long-term.

This has caused some to speculate that Jerry Jones may be waiting to see how the 2024 season goes before making any future decisions. The Cowboys could seemingly go in any direction. If Dallas is in the thick of playoff contention, perhaps they make moves at the trade deadline to add a few final pieces. It also seems possible that Dallas could go full retool mode if they get off to a poor start in the 2024 season.

In his eight-year career with the Cowboys, Dak Prescott has massively overperformed as a fourth-round pick. He has passed for 29,459 yards, 202 TDs and 74 INTs with a passer rating of 99.0 over eight seasons. The Cowboys have a 2-5 playoff record during Prescott's time as starting  quarterback.
