It turns out Rashee Rice was directly responsible for a car crash in Dallas last weekend that left four people injured. The Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver has admitted to driving the Lamborghini SUV leased in his name that created a six-car wreck while racing with a Chevrolet Corvette, according to his lawyer. Rice is also “fully cooperating” with local authorities' investigation into the matter.

“Attorney Royce West says #ChiefsWR Rashee Rice was indeed driving the Lamborghini when it crashed last Saturday in Dallas and he is ‘fully cooperating' with the police,” ESPN's Adam Schefter wrote on Twitter Thursday.

West held a press conference on Thursday addressing the incident.

“Mr. Rice wants to make certain that it's understood and appreciated that he's going to do everything in his power to bring their life back to as normal as possible, in terms of injuries, in terms of property damage,” West said. “And make certain that he is responsible for helping them to get through that particular part of this. Don't get us wrong, we understand that no one can help [the victims] get over the memories of being in an accident.”

Rice and others were speeding in the far-left lane of the North Central Expressway in an apparent race when they lost control of the Lamborghini and Corvette, causing a chair-reaction that resulted in four people being injured. The people in both vehicles left the scene after the collision without determining whether any victims of the crash needed medical attention, according to police and witness accounts of the scene. It was initially unclear whether Rice was behind the wheel of either vehicle.

The 23-year-old released a statement Wednesday admitting culpability for the crash, but did not address whether he was driving either vehicle that caused it.

“Today I met with Dallas PD investigators regarding Saturday's accident. I take full responsibility for my part in this matter and will continue to cooperate with the necessary authorities,” he wrote on Instagram. “I sincerely apologize to everyone impacted in Saturday's accident.”

Rashee Rice is vital to Chiefs' hopes of 3-peat

Patrick Mahomes commented on Rashee Rice's continued growth on the season amid a standout year with the Chiefs

A second-round pick out of SMU last year, Rice emerged as Patrick Mahomes' favorite target among a disappointing group of wide receivers in 2023, putting together one of the most productive rookie seasons in franchise history. He finished last season with 79 catches for 938 yards and a team-leading seven touchdowns, improving as the 18-game grind wore on. Rice played a pivotal role on Kansas City's Super Bowl run, too, racking up 26 catches on just 33 targets for 262 yards and a score in just four games.

The Chiefs signed Hollywood Brown in free agency, giving Mahomes another proven receiver alongside Rice and Travis Kelce as the team looks to become the NFL's first three-peat Super Bowl winners. There's a chance they take another pass-catchers in the first three rounds of the 2024 NFL draft, too.

No one would doubt Kansas City's ability to make that history even if Rice ultimately misses time during the regular season due to his driving transgression. Reaching their sky-high peak offensively, though, could be more difficult for the Chiefs should the NFL levy that significant punishment against him.
