The Philadelphia Eagles are getting some good news about one of their new players. Eagles' cornerback Isaiah Rodgers is getting reinstated to the NFL after serving a gambling suspension, per ESPN. Rodgers can start activities immediately with the team.

Rodgers' gambling issue

Rodgers hasn't played since the 2022 season, when he was a member of the Indianapolis Colts. He was suspended for the entirety of the 2023 season for violating the NFL's gambling protocols. Rodgers was accused of making as many as 100 bets on NFL games, per ESPN. Most of the wagers were within the $25 to $50 range, but some were more than that. The highest was reported to be $1,000.

“That report is true, with it being $1,000, but that report wasn't made from my device,” Rodgers said, per ESPN. “The $25 to $50 bets are exactly true, but it was more crazy-leg parlays with just $25 trying to make a crazy amount. Just funny bets. Nothing too serious. It was never, ‘This bet here is going to change my life.'”

The gambling ended up costing the cornerback an entire season of play, as well as a job. He was released from the Colts following the news of the suspension. The good news for Eagles fans and for Rodgers is that he's getting another chance in the league.

Eagles fans are certainly excited to see what Rodgers can do. The team is trying to get back to the Super Bowl after a disappointing end to the 2023 season, when the team lost to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in the NFC Playoffs. The Eagles and coach Nick Sirianni plan to use Rodgers in the secondary as well as the kicking game.

It seems that Rodgers is more than ready to move on. He acknowledged his errors when he was given his suspension.

“Addressing the current reports, I want to take full responsibility for my actions. I know I have made mistakes, and I am willing to do whatever it takes to repair the situation,” Rodgers posted on social media, per DeadSpin.

Rodgers established a reputation for himself in Indianapolis as a solid corner. He had 90 tackles during his three seasons with the Colts, including 68 solo stops. The defensive back also came up with three interceptions, during the 2021 season. He appeared in 45 games during his tenure.

The defensive back also made a mark in the Colts' special teams unit. He returned three punts, and 61 kickoffs during his three seasons, including a kick return for a touchdown during the 2020 season. He finished his career there with 1,645 kick return yards. Rodgers was drafted in the sixth round of the 2020 NFL Draft, by the Colts. He played his college football at UMass.

The NFL has reinstated several players in the last few weeks, who had been suspended for violating gambling policy. The players are: Shaka Toney, Rashod Berry, Quintez Cephus, C.J. Moore and Demetrius Taylor. Those players are free agents, per ESPN.
