As one prominent sports media personality said in the past, there may be no better two words in sports than “Game 7.” In this pivotal winner-take-all clash, teams tend to give it their all and do whatever it takes just so they could get the upper hand on their opponent in what has been, to that point, a very evenly-matched series. This is the case for the Philadelphia Phillies and Arizona Diamondbacks in the 2023 NLCS after the Diamondbacks took home a 5-1 victory in Game 6 to push the series to a win-or-go home.

With Game 7 beckoning, Phillies designated hitter Kyle Schwarber expects nothing less than 200 percent from both teams. In fact, Schwarber foresees a bit of desperation from both sides as they try to come up with answers to send home their NLCS rival home and end their 2023 season for good.

“It's going to be all hands on deck. It's going to be fight, scratch, claw. Do whatever you can to score a run, find a way to get outs, find a way to move up an extra 90 feet,” Schwarber told reporters postgame, via NBC Sports Philadelphia. “Tomorrow is going to be a really exciting baseball game because anything goes.”

That, indeed, is what a Game 7 is all about. Professional athletes tend to put it all out there since they know that if they fail to come up huge, they will be sent home packing. Kyle Schwarber and the Phillies know this; in fact, Schwarber acknowledged that there may be a bit of anxiety on his end, perhaps anticipation, especially when the fates of both the Phillies and Diamondbacks will be decided less than 24 hours from now.

“Anxious, you know, good anxious nerves coming in to the field tomorrow. You know, this is what you live [for], going into the backyard, you know, Game 7, put yourself in those situations,” Schwarber added.

At the very least, Kyle Schwarber is a player who has experience playing in a Game 7; he did so back in the 2016 World Series for the Chicago Cubs, a game in which he went 3-5. Can he come up huge again seven years later, this time for the Phillies?
