The Indiana Pacers made it official Thursday, announcing they have signed point guard Aaron Brooks to a one-year, $2.5 million deal.

The 31-year-old Brooks has played 11 seasons in the NBA, the last two of which were with the Chicago Bulls. He played in all 82 games two years ago, averaging 11.6 points and 3.0 assists per game off the bench. Last season, he appeared in 69 games and saw his scoring drop to 7.1 a night.

“Aaron is a proven point guard in the NBA,” said Pacers President of Basketball Operations Larry Bird. “He can create and shoot the three. He's another scorer for our second unit who plays at a high level at both ends of the court.”

Brooks has always been more of a scoring point guard, which isn't a bad thing to have as an option off the bench. His best days are definitely behind him, but he still has some years left where he'll be able to contribute some.

Indiana is finally parting ways with its starting point guard of the last four seasons, George Hill. The Pacers acquired Jeff Teague from the Atlanta Hawks to be the new starting point guard.

Rodney Stuckey got most of the back-up point minutes a year ago while the Pacers' second-round rookie, Joseph Young, played in just 41 games. Indiana was looking for more, and even gave Ty Lawson a shot.

Stuckey and Young are both still on the roster.
