New York Giants general manager Joe Schoen arrived on the scene tasked with one of the more difficult rosters to rebuild. One had to strain to find even a single player on New York's roster that could be deemed untouchable in a trade, which is never a good thing for an NFL team. Complicating offseason matters even more was the Giants' cap situation, as the team had very little money to spend. Schoen freed up some space with some savvy moves, then wisely utilized said money to plug up some holes on offense, specifically on the offensive line. However, the Giants still have some moves to make, with the NFL Draft ahead. New York has two picks in the upcoming draft, one of which could be used to further shore up the line. Schoen may not be done trimming New York's cap situation either, with some players who could be offered up in a trade. That said, these are the two moves the Giants must make to complete their roster in 2022.

2 Moves Giants Must Make

2. Trade Saquon Barkley

This one hurts to admit. However, the Giants can stand to free up as much as $7.2 million in cap savings with a Saquon Barkley trade. Barkley- and cornerback James Bradberry- are really the only two valuable trade chips that Schoen has in his back pocket. One of them is likely to be moved. In today's NFL, good cornerbacks are harder to find than good running backs, which is a reason to push for a Barkley trade over a Bradberry one. New York could roll with the recently signed Matt Breida and a potential rookie at running back in 2022. There's also the matter of the potential return in a trade. The Giants saw what the Kansas City Chiefs received in return for All-Pro wide receiver Tyreek Hill. Barkley is no Hill, though it's clear that offensive players, from quarterbacks to wide receivers- are being priced very highly in the current trade market. If the Giants can find a team out there that believes in a complete return to form for Barkley, they need to jump on that chance. New York could add some decent draft capital while freeing up some cap room.

1. Draft Ikem Ekwonu

Schoen has gotten off to a good start in terms of improving the offensive line. He added two potential starters through free agency in Mark Glowinski and Jon Feliciano. He can add another through the draft. Recent mocks have pointed towards one of the top offensive linemen being available to the Giants at pick number five in the NFL Draft. Whether it's Ikem Ekwonu, Evan Neal or Charles Cross, the Giants need to draft one of them to help fortify their offensive line. If given the choice, Ekwonu should be the pick. He has graded out as a year-one starter by NFL.com, which should catch New York's attention. The Giants need someone who can step in immediately and be a dependable blocker for Daniel Jones and the rest of New York's offense. Ekwonu is that guy.
