The fantasy football playoffs are here! Fantasy running backs are a very important position to pay attention to this week. It's time to continue our fantasy football series with a breakdown of the fantasy running back position.

There are some big-time fantasy running backs returning to their teams this week as well as some RB's that should play better than you think. In Week 15, we saw a ton of injuries to players that would really benefit your fantasy team like Leonard Fournette and Damien Harris. Fournette is expected to hit the Injured Reserve list. Los Angeles Chargers running back Austin Ekeler could potentially miss this week against the Houston Texans as he was placed on the Covid-19 list. There are some names that could really make or break your team this week at a crucial time. Let's take a look at the six fantasy running backs that fantasy owners should consider starting or sitting for Week 16.

Fantasy Football Week 16 Start ‘Em

D'Andre Swift – Detroit Lions

Swift is expected to return to the Lions this week after missing the last three weeks. Despite missing those games, he still ranks in the top-10 in most leagues. Swift should be inserted right back into your lineup as he should continue to play well. He and the Lions face the Atlanta Falcons this week who rank 24th against opposing fantasy running backs. Although, the Lions could limit his carries. Even so, I still expect his value to be productive against the Falcons' poor defense.

David Montgomery – Chicago Bears

Montgomery is due for a breakout game and it could come this week. He didn't play too great against the Minnesota Vikings last time out. For Week 16, he faces the 31st ranked Seattle Seahawks defense. Seattle's defense did not play too great against the LA Rams Tuesday night. I expect Montgomery to get a ton of carries against a weak run defense. He's still managing to surpass 10 fantasy points over his last four games so that is a positive sign. The Bears are desperate for someone to break out on offense. I know the fantasy football playoffs are here, but Montgomery could really help your team this week.

James Robinson – Jacksonville Jaguars

Robinson might be the happiest Jaguar after the Urban Meyer departure. He was not getting many carries over the last few weeks for whatever reason. Robinson lost his first career fumble a few weeks ago and didn't another carry for the rest of that game. He finally got these carries back and reached the end zone after 75 yards on the ground. The Jags face the New York Jets this week which should be one of the worst NFL games you'll ever see. Even though that is the case, expect Robinson to play well. The Jets rank 32nd against opposing fantasy running backs. Insert Robinson back into your lineup this week.

Fantasy Running Backs Sit ‘Em

Antonio Gibson – Washington Football Team

Gibson is on the sit list this week because of his last game against the Dallas Cowboys. He finished with just four fantasy points and only carried the ball 10 times. Gibson did finish with a touchdown against the Philadelphia Eagles Tuesday night, which is a positive sign. The Cowboys rank 4th against opposing running backs so that is an unfavorable matchup. He is too risky to start this week as the fantasy football playoffs are here.

Josh Jacobs – Las Vegas Raiders

Jacobs and the Raiders are finding ways to win games. Although, Jacobs' fantasy value isn't where it should be. He gets the carries but the production isn't there. He ended with just 52 yards rushing Monday night against the Browns. Jacobs needs to really figure it out or he won't be much of help to your fantasy football team. This week he faces the Denver Broncos who rank 7th against opposing fantasy running backs. He finished with 15 fantasy points in their last matchup early in the season, but I don't expect him to play as well in Week 16.

Chase Edmonds – Arizona Cardinals

Edmonds is a streaky running back this season. James Conner stepped up as the top back for the Cardinals this year and Edmonds is really hurting from it, especially his fantasy value. He carried the ball six times for 53 yards in the loss to the Lions in Week 15. That is a good sign but he needs to be getting more carries if his value is to raise. Edmonds faces the Indianapolis Colts who rank 3rd against opposing fantasy running backs. That should be enough to bench him for Week 16.
