The much anticipated first round of the 2020 NFL Draft is complete. Rumors of trades filled the air leading up to start time and it did not disappoint. As expected, the draft began at No. 3. Joe Burrow was selected first by the Cincinnati Bengals and the Washington Redskins landed a huge player with All-Pro potential in Chase Young.

It is important to look at draft position, savvy trades, and filling needs when searching for the biggest winners. These three teams did just that and made their football teams much, much better.

3. Denver Broncos/Dallas Cowboys

We have a tie for third place. The Broncos and Cowboys both landed huge wide receivers when no one thought they would in the NFL Draft. The Las Vegas Raiders made a surprise selection with Henry Ruggs III at No. 12. After the San Francisco 49ers opted for Javon Kinlaw over a top receiver, the Broncos had their pick.

Denver chose Jerry Jeudy, who is the best receiver in this class. That’s a win. When No. 17 came up, CeeDee Lamb was too good to pass on for Dallas. Throw needs out the window at that point and draft the best player. Lamb could not have been passed on there. He joins Dak Prescott, Ezekiel Elliott, and Amari Cooper for the Cowboys.

2. Tampa Bay Buccaneers

It has been quite the offseason for the Bucs. They signed Tom Brady, recently made a trade for Rob Gronkowski, and now landed arguably the best offensive lineman in the draft. Tampa Bay did not miss with their NFL Draft pick after swapping with the 49ers.

The Bucs moved up to No. 13 to draft Tristan Wirfs. They took advantage of poor selections from both New York squads and now have the big tackle from Iowa protecting their Hall of Fame quarterback. It was surprising to see Wirfs end up being the fourth lineman taken but Tampa Bay is not complaining.

1. Minnesota Vikings

What Minnesota did in the first round of the NFL Draft cannot be ignored. There was no Kirk Cousins criticism on Thursday night. It was not the time to discuss injuries or missed field goals in the playoffs. It was just a solid front office making two great moves.

The sequence began when the Philadelphia Eagles made the head-scratching selection of Jalen Reagor with Justin Jefferson on the board. The Vikings should have been running to the podium. This was a no-brainer. Minnesota needed to take a receiver at No. 25. Jeff Gladney seemed like a solid choice there.

Turns out that the Vikings could trade down to No. 31 and still take Gladney. All while acquiring the 117th and 176th picks in the process. These picks can be turned into other assets, whether it is in the secondary or along the offensive line. Needless to say, it is a very happy morning in Minnesota.
