The Buffalo Bills suffered a devastating loss to the Jacksonville Jaguars, 9-6. It was a big upset since they came into the game as a huge favorite. Josh Allen and the offense had an atrocious performance, unable to get in the end zone against one of the NFL's worst teams.

Many considered Buffalo to be the favorite to win the AFC, but that may change after this performance. A loss against a bottom-tier team could prove to be crucial down the line. This loss has opened up the division in the AFC East, with the New England Patriots now sitting half a game back.

With that said, here are three Bills takeaways from their devastating Week 9 loss to the Jaguars.

Buffalo Bills Week 9 Takeaways vs. Jacksonville Jaguars

3. The offense needs improvement

Although the Bills have talented players on offense, they have not put it all together. Buffalo's run game has been underwhelming, which was a big reason for the offensive struggles against the Jaguars.

Against the Jaguars, the Bills rushed for 72 yards on 14 carries and zero touchdowns.

The offensive line has also been inconsistent, leading to Allen being pressured often. He was sacked four times by Jacksonville and was under constant duress in the pocket.

Another problem on offense was the turnover issue. Allen had all three turnovers for the Bills as he threw two interceptions and fumbled one.

If the Bills want to get back to contention in the AFC, the run game, offensive line and the turnover problem will need to improve.

2. The defense is elite

While Allen and the offense were unable to get going, the defense continued to play well. They only allowed nine points and forced and recovered a fumble. The defense also had two sacks and was able to put some pressure on the quarterback.

Although many will look at the Bills' roster and think about the stars on offense, the defense has been the key cog for them this 2021. Buffalo's defense has been near the top of the league in so many categories.

If the Bills are going to make a deep playoff run, they will need to have that defense playing at an elite level.

1. Bills aren't the AFC favorites

Heading into the season, the Kansas City Chiefs were the favorites in the AFC. After their early struggles, the Bills emerged as the new leader after winning some challenging games early. However, after a loss to one of the worst teams in the league, they should no longer be considered the favorite.

There are too many questions on the consistency of the offense. Losing to a team like the Jaguars may haunt them down the line when it comes to playoff seeding. The Bills now face the problem of losing control of the division with the Patriots closing in.

Next week will be an important game for Buffalo to get back on track as they take on the New York Jets. The Jets are another bottom-tier team, but they will need to play great to come away with the win.

This game is a favorable matchup for Allen and the offense to get back on track. At this point in the season, the Bills didn't expect to lose a game to a team like the Jaguars, but it will serve as motivation.

Look for the Bills to have a bounce-back win against the Jets next week as they try to make another deep playoff run.
