The Indianapolis Colts used their first-ever pick in the 2020 NFL draft on a wide receiver, selecting former USC star Michael Pittman Jr. with the 34th overall pick Friday night.

With Philip Rivers as the starting quarterback for the near future, Pittman should find plenty of room to produce immediately. He's a big-bodied target standing at impressive 6-foot-4 and 223-pounds. The Colts will be getting a perfect companion to T.Y Hilton and Parris Campbell on the outside in Pittman.

With that being said, here are three bold predictions for Pittman in his rookie season with the Colts.

1,000 Receiving Yards

Although there will plenty of other weapons in the Colts’ offense, Pittman can still find a way to record 1,000 receiving yards. This past season, Pittman was incredibly productive at USC as a senior, catching 101 passes for 1,275 yards.

For his college career, Pittman caught 171 passes for 2,519 yards. Pittman finished his collegiate career ninth in yards on USC’s single-season list. His astounding performance in his senior year helped him earn Second Team All-American and a First-Team All-Pac-12 selections.

During his time at USC, Pittman loved to take deep routes. And Rivers is known to take deep shots down the field. If they're able to connect this upcoming season, Pittman can certainly reach 1,000 receiving yards.

Several NFL analysts have compared Pittman to Michael Thomas, the 2019 NFL leader in receiving yards. According to Pro Football Focus' Michael Renner:

“People want to want to find this like, ‘next Michael Thomas,’ and there's not gonna be another Michael Thomas. But if you're gonna tell me to pick one guy in this draft class, it’s gonna be Michael Pittman, because he has the size, he has the movement skills.

50 Receptions

Although Pittman had only one 50-plus reception season in his career at USC, it's certainly not impossible to accomplish it in the Colts' offense. Pittman finished fifth in all-time single-season receptions for USC. In his senior year, Pittman was primarily a first and second option.

However, when he joins the Colts, he'll most likely be a third and fourth option. Despite that, Rivers is known to throw many passes and to spread the ball around. Especially if Pittman uses his size, it'll be physically tough to defend him.

10 touchdowns

Playing alongside Parris Campbell and T.Y Hilton will give Pittman plenty of opportunities to score touchdowns, especially if Hilton or Campbell are in double coverage, Rivers will most certainly look for Pittman in the end zone. In his four-year college career at USC, Pittman proved that he can score. The 23-year-old finished off his collegiate career with an impressive 19 touchdowns. In his final season at USC, Pittman recorded a team-high 11 touchdowns.

Despite all the amazing receivers in this year's draft, Pittman certainly has the potential to be the best of the bunch. The southern California product will arguably go down as one of the best receivers in USC football history.

Pittman will certainly seek to make his father, Micahel Pittman Sr., a former NFL running back and Super Bowl winner, proud this upcoming season.
