The New York Giants officially ushered in a new era in the franchise when they brought in new general manager Joe Schoen and new head coach Brian Daboll. The duo's first draft was a successful one, as they knocked both first round picks out of the park, selecting stud pass rusher Kayvon Thibodeaux and talented offensive tackle Evan Neal.

There's no doubt that each of those rookies will play a big role, though projecting first-year players to have a breakout season can be a dicey business, especially in the pressure cooker that is the Big Apple. However, there are some familiar faces in the locker room who can make a difference for this new regime.

That said, here are three players who have breakout potential for the Giants in 2022.

Giants Breakout Players For 2022 NFL Season

3. Kadarius Toney

Kadarius Toney burst onto the scene as a rookie last year, totaling much of his production in one game against the Dallas Cowboys. However, Toney showed the Giants exactly what they were getting in that Week 5 game, as he went off for 10 catches and 189 yards.

Unfortunately, the rookie injured his ankle in that contest, which was a harbinger of things to come for the shifty wideout. Toney then dealt with quad and shoulder injuries as well, limiting him to 10 games as a rookie. Still, the rookie produced a very solid 74.4 receiving grade from Pro Football Focus in 2021.

In a familiar theme, Toney is dealing with a knee injury this offseason, relegating him to the JUGs machine during offseason practices. However, he is reportedly in excellent shape physically, which is exactly what the Giants want to see from the second-year pro.

With plenty of time until training camp, Toney can get himself healthy and in position for what could be a second-year breakout.

2. Azeez Ojulari

Another 2021 rookie, Azeez Ojulari enjoyed an eight-sack campaign in his first taste of NFL action last year. The Georgia product was the lone bright spot on a pass rush that was one of the worst in the league.

However, the Giants got Ojulari some help in the draft, as Thibodeaux will be rushing the passer next to him. The talented rookie is good enough to attract extra attention on the offensive line already, which should only serve to help Ojulari in year two.

The 21-year-old has added 10 pounds of muscle to his frame. He'll also benefit from having an experienced defensive coordinator, Wink Martindale, in his ear in 2022. There's reason to believe that Ojulari could build on his great rookie campaign next season.

1. Daniel Jones

While it's hard to consider a player entering his fourth season in the league a breakout, it certainly applies to Daniel Jones. The Duke product hasn't exactly wowed the Giants since he was drafted with the sixth pick in the 2019 NFL Draft.

However, Jones did show promise, firing 24 touchdown passes as a rookie. Plus, his completion percentages have increased each season, an encouraging sign for a young passer.

Still just 25, Jones will now benefit from the presences of Daboll, who helped Buffalo Bills star Josh Allen get to the next level, and offensive coordinator Mike Kafka, who has been in the ear of Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes the past few seasons.

Plus, Daboll has already given Jones the license to be aggressive without the fear of making mistakes. an important step for the young quarterback. With a lot to prove, a more aggressive Jones could be poised for a breakout campaign in 2022.
