The Cleveland Browns have been loyal to quarterback Baker Mayfield for the last two years now despite some fans believing that the team should consider moving away from him as the long-term franchise face. However, the loyalty has not paid off this season. In fact, Mayfield is playing at an even lower level than many were expecting.

In Week 10 against the New England Patriots, Mayfield put up a brutally bad performance. The Browns saw their franchise quarterback complete just 11 of his 21 pass attempts for 73 yards, one touchdown, and one interception.

Due to his poor performance, the Browns ended up falling in an incredibly important game by a final score of 45-7. That kind of loss in such a big game is completely unacceptable. Mayfield's future with Cleveland should be in jeopardy following this performance.

So far this season in nine games, Mayfield has played extremely inconsistently. He has completed 65.4 percent of his passes for 1,990 yards, nine touchdowns, and four interceptions. Granted, Mayfield has dealt with some injuries, but that is no excuse.

With all of that being said, let's dive in and take a look at three reasons the Browns should consider moving on from Mayfield this coming offseason.

3. Mayfield's Leadership Has Been Questionable At Best

Through his first four years now, Mayfield has shown signs of being a star on the field, but there is one area of his game that has never improved. That would be his leadership ability, which is incredibly important for all NFL quarterbacks.

Mayfield's leadership was called even more into question when Odell Beckham Jr.'s father publicly called the quarterback out for his poor play. Many players have been seemingly frustrated with Mayfield.

If the Browns want to become a true contender in the AFC, they will need a quarterback who can make his teammates better around him. Right now, Cleveland is simply hoping that Mayfield can perform well on his own. That simply isn't going to cut it long-term.

2. A Complete Lack Of Success Despite An Elite Offense Around Him

Secondly, there is another thing to consider very seriously. How many quarterbacks have the opportunity to play with talent like what Mayfield has had in Cleveland?

Jarvis Landry, Austin Hooper, Nick Chubb, and Kareem Hunt form a legitimate star-studded supporting cast. Add in other wide receivers like Donovan Peoples-Jones and Anthony Schwartz, and there is simply no excuse for Mayfield to have any struggles if he were a legitimate star in the making.

Mayfield has had more weapons than most quarterbacks could have dreamed of having. He has already led to Beckham requesting his release and being granted that release. Now, it's time for the Browns to consider re-making their roster with a new quarterback that plays more consistently, leads by example, and makes players better around him.

1. The Browns Need A Quarterback They Can Trust In Big Games

No one can take away the fact that Mayfield has helped lead the Browns back into playoff contention. That alone has been something that has warranted some loyalty and trust from the franchise. However, Mayfield has been slowly building a track record of being unable to come up with big performances in big games.

Watching how he imploded against the Patriots with serious potential playoff implications on the line was a major negative. Last year in the playoffs against the Kansas City Chiefs, Mayfield struggled to put up numbers and the Browns ended up losing. Time and time again, Mayfield has come up short in games that Cleveland needed to win.

This isn't to say that the Browns should trade Mayfield for pennies on the dollar. But, if they can get an offer that makes sense and then pursue a quarterback like Deshaun Watson in the offseason, they should pursue that opportunity. Cleveland should consider moving on from Mayfield, but only if they can get an obvious upgrade in the process.
