The NBA trade deadline is less than 24 hours away, with the Los Angeles Lakers rumored to be one of the top-tier teams around the league strongly considering making a deal before the buzzer sounds at noon PST on Feb. 6. The rumors have been swirling in Los Angeles, while the city and the franchise continue to mourn the loss of Kobe Bryant.

The one player on the Lakers' current roster that may be headed elsewhere is Kyle Kuzma. The 24-year-old is the team's offensive spark off the bench as the third leading scorer behind LeBron James and Anthony Davis. Still, he's struggled to live up to expectations of being that third star leading to constant speculation about his future with the team.

Although the rumors will continue to circulate with Kuzma's name prominently mentioned, the team should stand pat, and here are three reasons why I believe this would be the right move for this title-contending squad.

Chemistry at an All-Time High

Following the passing Bryant, this Lakers team went through something that no other team in the NBA in history has had to deal with. The loss of this icon rocked Los Angeles and the storied franchise to its core. The city coming to grips with losing such a prominent figure.

This tragedy has impacted the lives of every single player on the team, whether they had a close relationship with Kobe or not. This unfortunate event, which may go down as one of the worst tragedies in sports history, has galvanized this team, making them closer than ever before as they grieve together with one common goal of winning in honor of the Lakers legend.

Breaking up this team at the trade deadline could be the worst move general manager Rob Pelinka may ever make. Going through what these players have gone through together and then sending one or more of them packing in a trade could have a seriously negative impact.

Nothing is good about what has transpired in Los Angeles, and the impact will be felt for many years to come, but the chemistry and togetherness of this team is something that shouldn't be messed with as they all have one common goal.

Rumored Players Not Worth Making a Trade For

Kuzma is the player rumored to be headed elsewhere. No other player on the team at this point has been a serious candidate to be dealt. However, the return for the Lakers in rumored trades won't be worth parting with one of their best young players.

Among the rumored players potentially heading to Los Angeles include:

Derrick Rose, Detroit Pistons – Rose is having somewhat of a career resurgence as he's played well for the Pistons, but his injury issues could pose a problem for the Lakers if he's unable to stay on the floor, especially come playoff time.

Marcus Morris, New York Knicks – Morris is an intriguing option with the way he's been able to spread the floor this season for the Knicks. A shooting percentage of 43.9 from beyond the arc is impressive and something the Lakers could use, but he's a wild card in terms of whether he'll be an issue in this locker room where everyone gets along and loves playing with one another.

Bogdan Bogdanovic, Sacramento Kings – Bogdanovic, like Morris, has what the Lakers need in terms of outside shooting. The problem is that the Kings don't like what the Lakers are selling. There have been reports that Sacramento doesn't want what Los Angeles is offering in return for one of their best players. That could change, but it seems doubtful at this point.

Darren Collison Option

The best move for the Lakers, if they are determined to make one, is to simply sign free-agent guard Darren Collison.

The UCLA product announced his abrupt retirement before heading into NBA free agency this past summer. He surprised everyone with his announcement as he was expected to be a hot commodity for teams looking to bolster their backcourt.

Now Collison is ready to get back in the NBA and hopes to sign with either the Lakers or the L.A. Clippers after the All-Star break. He'd be a great fit for Frank Vogel's squad checking a couple of boxes. He's a great three-point shooter, defender, and gives the team another ballhandler in the backcourt.

Also, the team doesn't have to trade for him. They'd have to make a move to create a roster spot, but that would likely be much easier than making a deal ahead of Thursday's NBA trade deadline. Adding the Los Angeles native would be a seamless addition and instantly improve the team on both ends of the floor.
