The way the San Francisco 49ers lost Super Bowl LIV to the Kansas City Chiefs is going to be the biggest shadow looming over the head of Jimmy Garoppolo. His inability to keep up with the Kansas City Chiefs' fourth-quarter outburst has been the butt of jokes by many fans.

However, Kyle Juszczyk came to the defense of the 49ers quarterback. He called for detractors to pedal back on their slander of his quarterback, saying that he's still better than a lot of the quarterbacks in the NFL.

Per Pro Football Talk's Josh Alper:

“You look at Jimmy, for people that are stats guys, 4,000 yards passing, better than a 2-1 touchdown-to-interception ratio, 70 percent completion, you just look at that, that’s a phenomenal quarterback,” Juszczyk said. “Anybody’s going to sign up for that early in the season. But for whatever reason, Jimmy just seems to get this extra criticism, this extra heat. But I think at one point in the game, he’s like 19 for 22, 180 yards and a touchdown.”

Garoppolo's performance over the 2019 campaign showed that he's definitely a lot better than some of the quarterbacks in the league. He finished with 3,978 passing yards and 27 passing touchdowns. His stable performance inside the pocket helped the 49ers get past the Seattle Seahawks and Green Bay Packers in the playoffs.

Juszczyk also noted that Garoppolo was a solid quarterback during the first three frames of the game for the 49ers while pointing out that a couple of key passes would have easily changed the opinions of fans. This statement is understandable as wins are all the things that matter to football fans. If it's anything less than a Super Bowl victory, fans are understandably upset.

The only way they can quiet these critics is to win Super Bowl LV. It may be a tough hill to climb, but Jimmy G should have the hunger to prove his critics wrong and finally win it all with the 49ers.
