The San Francisco 49ers are off to a 2-1 start and were just seconds away from winning their first three games. However, their offense has struggled to produce, with many fans calling for Kyle Shanahan to start Trey Lance at QB instead of Jimmy Garoppolo.

The 49ers head coach addressed those comments on Wednesday and was clearly annoyed with the narrative that he would bench Jimmy G and make Lance the first stringer. Via Jake Hutchinson:

Before the season started, there were some rumors that Lance could be the starter over Garoppolo. But ultimately, the veteran has been the main man, with the rookie taking just seven snaps through the first few weeks of the season. In fact, he's attempted just one pass and completed it for a 5-yard touchdown. Lance has also rushed for a TD for the 49ers.

It's not exactly a bad thing that Shanahan is doing, though. While he will continue to get criticism for starting Garoppolo, Lance will be able to learn the ropes much easier with limited playing time rather than being thrown into the fire right away. He's already shown promise when on the field and is profiling to definitely be the 49ers starting quarterback of the future. Plus, there were rumblings that Garoppolo could get traded in the offseason for a reason. Trey Lance's time will come and Kyle Shanahan definitely knows that.
