The last few months have been an uphill battle for the San Francisco 49ers second-year linebacker Reuben Foster who dealt with a couple of serious issues off the field. He had primarily dealt domestic violence charges, which had put his NFL career in jeopardy before they were dropped earlier this week.

Foster now moved past the second set of separate charges involving marijuana that were dropped on Friday morning, according to Matt Barrows of the Sacramento Bee.

Although this a huge break for Foster, he could still be disciplined by the NFL under the substance-abuse policy despite the charges being dropped. This has been a huge life-changing week for the 24-year-old as it clears him from any further legal issues that could have easily derailed his entire NFL career after just one season.

He had previously been facing felony charges of domestic violence from his ex-girlfriend that were dropped after it was revealed that she had lied under oath that accused Foster of punching her. Not only could he have faced jail time, but also a lengthy suspension from the NFL and likely being cut by the 49ers as general manager John Lynch had made that clear had he been charged in that serious matter.

This could be a wake-up call for Foster to get himself back on track off the field because any of these issues could prevent him from putting together any lengthy NFL career. This is a chance for him to straighten out his lifestyle away from the game in order avoid any possible problems arising in the future. He has proven to be a game-changing talent on the field a possible long-term centerpiece defensively for the 49ers, but it will require him to avoid any potential distractions or trouble off the field.
