Running back Raheem Mostert of the San Francisco 49ers is leaving the team, for good reason though.

According to Matt Maiocco of NBC Sports Bay Area, Mostert was granted temporary leave from the team to attend the birth of his child.

“Before, their protocol was only one person was allowed to be in the room while my wife was giving birth — or anyone is giving birth,” Mostert said on KNBR. “They made the exception for me because I’m taking these (daily) COVID tests and doing everything I can try to be back with my family.”

There are not many better excuses for leaving work than “my child is being born,” and that's the card that Mostert gets to pull right here.

The running back is actually in a unique position, too. Protocol usually does not allow other people in the room with anyone giving birth due to the pandemic. But Mostert's line of work helped him out here.

He is not being granted special access because he is an NFL superstar. Instead, it is because of the league's testing. Mostert is taking daily COVID-19 tests. So, he is one of the safest bets to allow into the room.

Mostert is expecting to leave the 49ers next week. However, you can never be 100 percent sure what the timetable will be when it comes to birth. Anything can happen in there.

If everything goes according to plan though, the running back will take off for a few days to be with his family, and be back for the game. Meaning that he would not miss any actual game action.

Obviously, there is hope that he will not miss San Francisco's Week 2 game against the New York Jets or their Week 3 game against the New York Giants.

But the bigger hope here is that everything works out well for Mostert and his wife as they welcome their second child into the world.
