All eyes will be on the San Francisco 49ers in the coming months as they aim to resolve the future of quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo with the team. However, 49ers general manager John Lynch is also set to face a notable dilemma regarding the contract situations of all-around offensive threat Deebo Samuel and defensive end Nick Bosa.

As it stands, Samuel is set to play in the final year of his contract in the upcoming 2022 season. He is on track to become an unrestricted free agent next year, and he certainly upped his market value following his standout 2021 season where he led the team in yards from scrimmage with 1,770.

The 49ers will not face an urgent dilemma with Bosa. He currently has one more season remaining on his contract, and he also has a fifth-year option for the 2023 campaign. However, as with Samuel, the versatile defensive lineman has continued to increase his market value by the season.

Lynch well recognizes he has a pair of challenges in store regarding the contract situations of the two star talents.

“It’ll certainly be a challenge as good of players as those guys are,” Lynch said at the 2022 NFL Scouting Combine.

At the least, Lynch did note that he has had promising communication with the representatives of both players, although he shied away from providing an exact timeline on just when the team aims to come to terms with them on contract extension deals.

“But I do know this, those guys are, in my mind, no absolutes, but those guys are going to be 49ers,” Lynch said. “They’re foundational to what we do on the field. Their play is special, and off the field, in their own way, they’ve each become really big-time leaders for our team.

“And we do have good communication and good relationships with both their representatives as well as both the players. I think what I’ve learned in my going-on six years in this business is when both sides have the motivation, deals can get done. So the timing, I have no idea, but we’ll go to work here and have been working to try to do something.”

Spotrac projects $19.2 million AAV (average annual value) and $18.1 million AAV deals for Bosa and Samuel, respectively. Nonetheless, the two sure are in line for mega contracts with the 49ers.
