Barring any major surprises in the coming months, the San Francisco 49ers will embark on the Trey Lance era in the 2022 campaign. For wide receiver Deebo Samuel, he is much confident in what Lance can bring to the 49ers offense.

Samuel recently took some time to speak on ESPN’s “First Take” program, where he provided his stamp of approval on the first-year quarterback.

“Seeing what I see in Trey [Lance], it's going to take time with him not having as many reps this year to come in and be the guy I know he can be,” Samuel said.

“With time, you get better. I put all my trust in Trey.”

As Samuel touched on, Lance did not have his notable share of snaps logged in his rookie campaign. While he heavily featured in the 49ers offense over the preseason, he wound up playing in a mere 178 total snaps on offense and notched 71 pass attempts, as the team continued to rely on veteran passer Jimmy Garoppolo to be its starting quarterback for the campaign.

The 49ers’ 2022 NFC Championship Game defeat to the Los Angeles Rams was very likely Garoppolo’s final contest with the team, as rumors have speculated that general manager John Lynch will push to trade him in the offseason. And from there, the team will hand over the starting quarterback job to Lance.

The 49ers may end up having a number of notable dilemmas to address in the coming months, which include the long-term future of Samuel with the team.
