AEW put a ton of work into the buildup to Forbidden Door, their co-promotional Pay-Per-View with NJPW.

They produced digital hype packages, committed serious television time to contextualizing every angle, and even compiled it all on YouTube, where fans could catch up on anything they missed, or simply watch it again to familiarize themselves with the event's participants.

And yet, the promotion's biggest YouTube video over the month of June wasn't one featuring Kazuchika Okada, Hiroshi Tanahashi, or even Minoru Suzuki but instead CM Punk, the man who had to relinquish the AEW World Championship to set up the interim title match eventually won by Jon Moxley.

That's right, according to Brandon Thurston of Wrestlenomics, of all the videos produced by AEW during the month of June, only one cracked the one million mark in cumulative views and that was “What was CM Punk's Heartbreaking Announcement?” from the first Rampage of the month.

You have to give it to CM Punk, while he doesn't necessarily move the needle on television every week outside of special occasions, he sure does have an insanely passionate fanbase who will follow him anywhere he goes in the wrestling world.

Had Punk remained healthy, maybe YouTube would have been popping off with million-plus performing videos on a weekly basis. Maybe the lead-up to a bout between Punk and an NJPW wrestler, be that Okada, Tanahashi, or Naito would have become a social media darling that fans would have eaten it up. Either way, it's safe to say when the man born Chick Magnet Punk Phil Brooks returns, it will generate one heck of a pop in the arena, from fans at home, and yes, on social media.
