The Los Angeles Angels were given a major scare when Shohei Ohtani was removed from Sunday's game early after suffering an apparent injury. The Angels revealed he was feeling discomfort in his groin, prompting the team to send Jack Mayfield up to pinch-hit for the superstar. After the game, Ohtani had a message for fans in Anaheim after the team's win over the White Sox, and he ensured supporters that he plans to be back in the lineup for Monday's game, via Jeff Fletcher.

Ohtani only exited the game in the top of the ninth inning ahead of what would have been his fifth plate appearance of the game. Fortunately, he doesn't seem to think it's a major issue, and doesn't foresee the knock impacting his availability for Monday's series finale against Chicago.

That's certainly good news for the Angels, though ultimately it will be the organization, and not Ohtani, who has the final word on his availability for Monday. Ohtani is scheduled to start in the first game of the Angels' series against the Red Sox on Tuesday, so it's possible the Angels could opt to hold him out of the lineup on Monday for an additional day of rest.

On the year, Ohtani is slashing .236/.284/.416 with 4 home runs, 11 RBI, 4 stolen bases, and 17 runs scored. On the mound, he owns a 4.19 ERA across four starts, logging a 2-2 record with 30 strikeouts and 5 walks over a span of 19.1 innings. Ohtani was 0-for-3 with an RBI and a walk before his ninth-inning exit against the White Sox, serving as the team's designated hitter.
