After a summer transfer window in which the club spent over €90 million, Serie A side AS Roma has now turned its attention to extending the stay of midfielder Lorenzo Pellegrini at the club.

As noted by the Italian-based outlet CalcioMercato, AS Roma is well interested in signing Pellegrini to a new contract extension deal. For the moment, Pellegrini is playing in the final season of his contract with the club, as he is slated to become a free agent next year.

AS Roma club officials have already made great strides to keep its coveted star midfielder.

As noted by the report, Tiago Pinto, Roma sporting director, recently met with Pellegrini’s agents to further open up talks over a new extension deal for the midfielder.

The Italian-based outlet Sky Sport adds that talks between the two sides on this matter were “positive” and they intend to soon meet once again, as they have not yet reached a final agreement for a contract.

The AS Roma captain is said to be aiming to sign a new deal worth around €4 million per season.

The Italian talent has garnered plenty of interest from other clubs as of late, including from Premier League sides Tottenham and Liverpool. Tottenham sporting director Fabio Paratici had aimed to sign Pellegrini over the recent summer transfer window, especially as the midfielder currently holds a €30 million release clause.

But for now, Pellegrini is inching closer to extending his stay at AS Roma, where he will aim to further lead the side as its team captain on a season-by-season basis.
