The Houston Astros are off to a solid start to the season, but they'll be without a key member of the bullpen for a while after the latest update on big-money closer Ryan Pressly. According to Chandler Rome of The Houston Chronicle, Pressly is dealing with right knee inflammation. As a result, he'll be placed on the 10-day injured list in order to rest up and get back to 100% strength.

With Pressly unavailable and a roster spot now open, the Astros opted to recall Parker Mushinski to the big-league club. Mushinski has never featured in the major leagues, but the 26-year-old reliever could be in line for his first MLB appearance in the coming days.

Last season across Double-A and Triple-A, Mushinski served as both a reliever and a starter. He appeared in 23 games, recording a 3.60 ERA with 84 strikeouts across 65.0 innings of work. He allowed just one earned run in 4.0 innings during 2022 Spring Training.

Pressly has been a key member of the Astros' late-inning approach since arriving from the Twins in 2018. Last season, Pressly made his second All-Star Game while recording a 2.25 ERA, 26 saves, and 81 strikeouts across 64.0 innings. He was expected to serve as the Astros' closer this season, but his early trip to the IL will force the team to deploy another late-arm reliever into the high-leverage role.

Pressly isn't expected to be sidelined long, so hopefully, the Astros won't have too many games go down to the wire in his absence. Houston is scheduled to finish a three-game set with the Mariners on Sunday, before returning to Houston for consecutive three-game series' against the Angels and Blue Jays.
