The Colorado Avalanche currently sit atop the Western Conference by a relatively large margin, boasting a 44-13-5 record, good for an NHL-best 93 points. That's a nine-point advantage over the second-place Calgary Flames. With the trade deadline coming and going on Monday, the Avalanche made two more trades to bolster their roster for a Stanley Cup run.

Colorado acquired Artturi Lehkonen from the Montreal Canadiens and Andrew Cogliano from the San Jose Sharks. Lehkonen cost prospect Justin Barron and a 2024 second-round pick, while Cogliano went for a 2024 fifth-round pick, per Frank Seravalli of Daily Faceoff.

These moves come after the Avalanche had already made two trades in the days leading up to Monday's deadline. Colorado acquired Josh Manson from the Anaheim Ducks and Nico Sturm from the Minnesota Wild.

It's no surprise to see the Avalanche going all in given their current standing at the top of the NHL. The Florida Panthers, the leaders in the Eastern Conference, made a huge move by acquiring longtime Philadelphia Flyers star Claude Giroux, so Colorado wanted to respond.

Paying quite a somewhat hefty price for Lehkonen is certainly notable, and the Avalanche are hoping he'll play a key role in getting this team to Stanley Cup glory. Colorado suffered a disappointing second-round loss to the Vegas Golden Knights last season after a dominant regular season saw them finish first, though the Golden Knights matched them with 82 points.

The Avalanche haven't been to a Stanley Cup Final since 2001, when they beat the New Jersey Devils in seven games for a championship.
