The post-Lionel Messi era is now underway for Barcelona.

The Catalan giants opened up their 2021-2022 La Liga schedule with a home fixture against Real Sociedad, which is the club's first official match since Messi's departure to Paris Saint-Germain.

Barca fans are planning to pay tribute to the six-time Ballon d'Or winner by chanting his name at the 10th minute of each home game over the course of this season. They already showed their respects to the Argentine forward by doing this during last week's friendly Joan Gamper Trophy match against Serie A powerhouse Juventus.

In Barcelona's fixture against Real Sociedad, the Blaugrana faithful at the Camp Nou once again chanted for the new PSG star when the clock hit the 10th minute in the match.

As mentioned, the post-Messi era is now a reality for the La Liga powerhouse. And even with his departure, the club still faces hefty expectations to build on the momentum from last season, which included triumph in the 2021 Copa del Rey tournament.

More so, several veterans will be tasked with helping to replace Messi's staggering goal contribution production. The likes of Antoine Griezmann and Memphis Depay will certainly be called upon to lead the way in Barcelona's attack and post double-digit goal involvement campaigns in all competitions this season.

Messi's departure from Barca still has not yet hit reality to many of the club's supporters, but the team simply has to move on now and build for the future with their array of promising talents.
