After a horrendous season debut as the Chicago Bears starting quarterback, Justin Fields is definitely be looking ahead to their Week 4 matchup against the Lions. Fields is hoping to put up better numbers next Sunday after going 6-of-20 on just 68 yards passing in his first start of the season against the Browns on Sunday.

With a horribly ineffective offensive line and some questionable play calls by Matt Nagy and the Bears coaching staff last Sunday, it's safe to say that the Bears have a ton of issues to address prior to playing against their NFC North rivals on Sunday. Hoping to bounce back in their Week 4 match-up against the Lions, let's now take a look at the two members of the Bears organization who were most responsible for Justin Fields' disastrous first start.

Justin Fields, Andy Dalton, Matt Nagy, Bears

Matt Nagy

Even though Andy Dalton did well for the Bears as their starter, the smarter play was clearly to name Justin Fields as their starter for the 2021 NFL season. Despite the fact that Fields started for them for the first time last Sunday, he was not well prepared to handle the Browns elite pass rush that picked him apart all game long. There was also some questionable play calling from Matt Nagy during crucial parts of their match-up against Cleveland last Sunday.

If there's anybody who's at fault for Fields' poor performance in Week 3, it was without question Nagy for not getting him better prepared in his first game as the Bears starting quarterback. If he fails to utilize Fields' skillsets properly again this Sunday, then it wouldn't be the least bit surprising to see Matt Nagy on the hot seat heading into Week 5.

Sam Mustipher

Considering that Justin Fields got sacked eight times during last Sunday's game, it's safe to say that Sam Mustipher could've done a better job protecting Fields. Granted it's not all his fault, seeing as the entire offensive line was at fault for letting up and allowing Fields to get hit as much as he did.

However, the center is the one who sets the tone for their offensive line and his miscues seemed to have a domino effect on the entire O-line of Chicago last weekend. Looking ahead to their Week 4 match-up against the Lions, the Bears will have to do a much better job of protecting Fields so he can survive in the pocket long enough to make the big plays that he's previously shown he's capable of making given that he has enough time to maneuver and read the field.

So this Sunday, the Bears will have to take their pass blocking to the next level if they want Justin Fields to put on a better performance in his second start of the season and that starts with Sam Mustipher leading the charge for them at center. If Fields is going to survive in the pocket and be able to make big plays for them on offense, then there's no question that Mustipher has to bring his A-game and provide him with some top-notch pass blocking.
