The Chicago Bears are in the midst of an overhaul after firing general manager Ryan Pace and head coach Matt Nagy. New GM Ryan Poles already made waves on Thursday, agreeing to trade Khalil Mack to the Los Angeles Chargers in a blockbuster trade. Now, the Bears are making another notable move by releasing Tarik Cohen with an injury designation, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter.

Here are more details:

As noted, this isn't surprising given Cohen didn't play in the 2021 season after tearing his ACL early in the 2020 season. The recovery clearly didn't go as planned, but the speedster is hoping to be ready for the 2022 campaign.

It's a bummer of an ending for Cohen's Bears career after he showed a lot of promise as a dual-threat running back and return man to start his career. Chicago drafted him in the fourth round of the 2017 NFL Draft , and he made an immediate impact as a rookie. He then had his best season in 2018, racking up 444 rushing yards, 725 receiving yards and 411 punt return yards en route to a Pro Bowl selection, as well as All-Pro honors.

Cohen's performance took a dip in 2019, and then he suffered the torn ACL in 2020. The Bears already have David Montgomery and Khalil Herbert in place at running back, so the writing was indeed on the wall for Cohen.

Poles will make a bunch of other moves to rebuild the roster around young quarterback Justin Fields. The new GM has a lot of work to do building this roster for new head coach Matt Eberflus, and he's not wasting any time getting to work.
