The Chicago Bears have been scrambling to find their possible starting quarterback for the 2021 season, and they've now inked a veteran in free agency. According to ESPN's Adam Schefter, the Bears have struck a deal with Andy Dalton to fill their need at the quarterback position.

The deal for Andy Dalton is a one-year contract worth $10 million, with an opportunity to earn another $3 million in incentives. In all likeliness, the incentives are going to be determined on how much Dalton plays for the Bears in the upcoming season.

After giving Mitchell Trubisky another season to prove himself in 2020, Chicago had decided he wasn't going to be their starter anymore. While Trubisky remains a free agent himself, the Bears have added a veteran that is likely going to be a placeholder for someone else in the future.

Just this past season, Dalton served as the backup to Dak Prescott on the Dallas Cowboys. In his lone season in Dallas, after spending nine years with the Cincinnati Bengals, Dalton was forced into action when Prescott went down with a season-ending ankle injury.

Dalton started in nine games for the Cowboys in 2020, tallying 2,170 passing yards, 14 touchdowns and eight interceptions. During his nine starts, Dallas logged a below-average 4-5 record and missed the playoffs in a weak NFC East division.

Fans of the Bears have been clamoring for Ryan Pace to make a massive splash for guys like Deshaun Watson or Russell Wilson this offseason. For the time being, it looks as if Chicago is settling for Dalton in case they aren't able to upgrade at the position later on.
