The Chicago Bears are officially eliminated from the playoffs with two games left to play. Making matters even more unfortunate for Bears fans? They may not even get the chance to glimpse the future over the next two weeks as Chicago finishes off a disappointing regular season.

Chicago coach Matt Nagy announced on Friday that veteran quarterback Andy Dalton will start in Week 17 against the New York Giants, with journeyman Nick Foles backing him up.

Conspicuously absent from the Bears' two-man depth chart at quarterback is rookie Justin Fields, the 11th overall pick of last year's draft. He missed last week's win over the Seattle Seahawks with an ankle injury.

Though Fields' injury isn't of the serious variety, Nagy made clear earlier this week Chicago wouldn't rush him back just to get him some extra in-game reps over the final two games of the season.

“Justin wants to play,” Nagy said on Monday, per Alyssa Barbieri of BearsWire. “He’s a competitor. He wants to be there for his teammates. I think that’s what matters. And I think that’s what all of us understand. We have to be smart. We’re not going to put him at risk. And he knows that.”

Fields is officially listed as questionable for Sunday's game, but is not expected to play. Nagy told reporters there's a chance he could start Chicago's finale on January 9th against the Minnesota Vikings, though.

In 12 games and 10 starts this season, Fields has thrown for 1,870 yards, seven touchdowns and 10 interceptions while completing 58.9% of his passes.
