The Chicago Bears entered the offseason strapped with plenty of salary cap space to make additions to the roster via free agency. The front office had several areas of need to address, and it didn't take long to bring aboard proven talent to help create a more potent offensive unit next season.

Much of this effort came toward providing more talent around second-year quarterback Mitchell Trubisky. During a recent interview with SiriusXM NFL Radio, former Bears head coach John Fox spoke highly of the moves Chicago has put forth to provide more offensive weapons for Trubisky. “I thought Mitch handled it great,” former Bears coach John Fox said on SiriusXM NFL Radio. “He’s respected in that locker room. The Bears have gone out and done a good job in free agency, surrounding him with some weapons. I don’t care who you are, it’s not one guy. You need some help around you.”

The Bears have added more proven talent to their group of pass catchers, headlined by former Pro Bowl wideout Allen Robinson, who could immediately step in as the top receiving option for Trubisky. He is just two years removed from his breakout 2015 campaign, where he recorded 80 catches for 1,400 receiving yards and a league-leading 14 touchdowns that helped him earn a Pro Bowl selection. He also became the first Jaguars receiver to compile over 1,000 receiving yards in a single season since Jimmy Smith back in 2005.

Meanwhile, the addition of veteran wideout Taylor Gabriel provides the team with a big-play receiving threat who can stretch the field with his speed alone, which he put on display during his time with the Atlanta Falcons. The Bears also inked former Philadelphia Eagles tight end Trey Burton, who has shown he is capable of excelling in a more featured role when given the opportunity. He has the ability to be a legitimate red-zone threat while stretching the field vertically.

Each of these new acquisitions could play a major part in helping the Bears take a significant step forward toward competing for a playoff spot in 2018 while furthering the growth of their promising quarterback. There are a lot of positives to take from this offseason; the future is bright in the Windy City.
