Roquan Smith is entering his third season with the Chicago Bears and he believes 2020 is going to be his best year yet. The former No. 8 pick in the 2018 NFL Draft is confident that he'll be proving his doubters wrong next season.

Per Mark Potash in the Chicago Sun-Times:

“First and foremost, it’s just about me,” Smith said, via ProFootballTalk. “I’ve got a huge chip on my shoulder. [I’m] just really excited. I don’t want much hype going into this year because I know my mindset and what I plan to do this upcoming season. [If] I stay healthy, I definitely feel like it’s going to be my best year to date and I feel like I’m gonna do some things. A lot of people counted me out. So I’m gonna get back to who I really am and do pretty much everything the way I want to do [it] and make myself the best possible player I can.”

In his rookie season with the Bears, Smith recorded 121 tackles, five sacks, five pass breakups, and an interception. Then, the Georgia product proceeded to tally 101 tackles, two sacks, two pass breakups, and an interception in 2019.

However, Smith was unable to finish the 2019 campaign after suffering a pectoral injury in the latter portion of the year. As a result, he would miss four games one season ago due to injury.

After sustaining an injury that ended his sophomore season in the NFL, Smith has a chip on his shoulder heading into next season. While he heads into the second-to-last year of his rookie contract, Smith is prepared to prove his worth in 2020.
